Why were changes made to the ebook DDA program?
Why have there been changes made with ProQuest ebooks?
On February 18, 2025, ProQuest announced significant changes to their ebook programs. They will be ending single-title perpetual access purchasing in Ebook Central and ceasing their Demand Driven Acquisitions (DDA) program. Instead, ProQuest will transition their academic offerings to various subscription models. Ebooks remain a vital part of our library’s collection. Although ProQuest is one of our major suppliers, we acquire ebooks from numerous other providers and publishers.
What does this mean for users of Mercer University Libraries -
- Existing ProQuest Ebooks: All previously purchased ProQuest ebooks will remain accessible. ProQuest has committed to preserving perpetual access to these titles and maintaining the platform that hosts them. You will continue to find these ebooks in Discovery.
- DDA Migration: We are working to transition DDA to the JSTOR platform as of July 1, 2025 and are exploring other options as well.
- One-time Purchases: We plan to transition to purchasing ebooks hosted on publisher platforms and on the JSTOR and EBSCO ebook platforms.
