How do I find the history of counseling?

How to find information about clinical mental health counseling's history.

A history of counseling is often found in sections or chapters of counseling textbooks, or in entries of counseling reference books.

To find books that include a history of counseling, search the Mercer University Libraries' catalog for the subject "Counseling" and keyword "histor*".  The * is a truncation symbol, used to include words like histories, historical, history, etc.  The * symbol is entered by typing Shift 8 on physical computer keyboards.

  1. From the Mercer University Libraries' catalog, select "ADVANCED SEARCH."
  2. Select the bubble next to "Library Catalog."
  3. Select the "Any field" dropdown list, and select "Subject."
  4. Enter "Counseling" on the first line.
  5. Enter "histor*" on the second line.
  6. Select "🔎Search."

A sampling of these books can be found in the History of Counseling section within the Clinical Mental Health Counseling library guide.
