What is an annotated bibliography?

How do I format an annotated bibliography? How do I put my annotated bibliography in APA style? MLA? Chicago?

This is partially based on the assignment from your professor, but an annotated bibliography entry generally consists of--

  • a citation for your resource
  • a few sentences summarizing the resource
  • a few sentences discussing how the resource relates to your topic

The Purdue Online Writing Lab has a page dedicated to formatting annotated bibliography entries in MLA, APA, and Chicago-style.
